At Home With Agatha Christie - Judy Dewey & Tony Rayner
The renowned author Agatha Christie was always a very private person. One of her best-kept secrets was the place where she and her second husband Max Mallowan established their family home.
Winterbrook House, situated in the parish of Cholsey but close to the town of Wallingford, Oxfordshire, was chosen as their residence in 1934. It was to be their home base for the next 42 years, where they worked together and enjoyed their married life; many of Agatha’s most famous books were written or completed there.
To celebrate this link with Agatha Christie numerous personal recollections have been gathered from local people who knew or met her, including a rare interview with a local schoolboy. Alongside descriptions of her home, church and neighbourhood, these provide a unique glimpse into the private life of Mrs Mallowan, in the place where she lived out her long life, and chose to be laid to rest.
